Scoliosis & Schroth

Curve-specific, one-to-one sessions in Haeundae, Busan, for adolescents and adults.

Seen from behind, a curve looks like a sideways bend. The same spine is also rotating and shifting sideways at once, and that is what a curve-specific program has to account for.

Why does a curve show on the surface?

As the spine curves sideways, the vertebrae rotate with it, and the ribs turn with them — carried backward on one side and forward on the other. That is the rib prominence, most visible when bending forward.

The trunk can also shift sideways relative to the pelvis rather than simply tilting, which is why waist creases differ from side to side. Rib-cage movement can differ from side to side, so directed breathing may be used to encourage expansion in areas that move less freely.

What do families usually notice first?

  • A bra strap that slips off one shoulder and never the other
  • A uniform hem hanging lower on one side no matter how it is straightened
  • One shoulder blade standing out further in a photograph from behind
  • A waist that creases on one side and runs straight on the other
  • In adults, one-sided aching after standing for a while

Is this for adolescents, adults, or both?

Both, with different questions. During growth a curve can change, so follow-up imaging matters, and decisions about monitoring or bracing sit with the orthopedic team; sessions run alongside that. Adults are often people told about a curve years ago and now asking what to do with it — trunk control, breathing, and comfort through a working day.

What an existing X-ray report adds

If you already have an X-ray and hospital report, bring them with you. The reported Cobb angle and curve pattern can help us understand the spinal shape alongside what we see in posture and movement. Motion & Spine does not take X-rays or replace orthopedic assessment.

If follow-up imaging is recommended by your medical team, bringing the most recent information helps us keep the movement program relevant to the current curve pattern.

How a scoliosis session works

The work is chosen for the individual curve pattern rather than applied as a general back routine, so two people with similar angles may be given different positions. Sessions may include curve-specific positioning, directed breathing and active correction, depending on the individual pattern.

A first visit takes longer, because the assessment comes first: posture, rib and pelvic position, spinal mobility and breathing. Regular home practice is an important part of Schroth-based work. One-to-one, in English or Korean, at Marine City in Haeundae, by appointment.
